【格致彙編 第三(編、訂正)巻】七丁、有容間象皮一物分為四種等云々、予曰所謂輭象皮者係樹汁而成之、其樹為無花果之類、在熱地所産、若将其樹体鑚成一孔、汁自流出、如乳之形、不久則(■、訂正)凝結成皮、中国之俗者、皆以為象之皮也、其性輭(結之際、抹消)而靱、且能伸縮不断、又(又、訂正)有一種、乃新加坡等処所産、此樹高自六十尺至七十尺、其汁興前言者略同、惟凝結之際、其質硬〓(淹カ)於熱水内則、変輭可以任為何式、冷時仍変硬、英国(国、訂正)初得此樹者、為三十年前、現今毎年購(得、訂正)買二万余担、所謂輭而熟之象皮者、其造法以輭象皮、合於硫黄、加熱至三間二十度、即成此質、無論冷熱不及変其輭性、但合於硫黄之後、如加更大之熱、而其熱更久者則、変為黒而硬之質、能造方用之器具、以代骨与木等類之用料也、且能磨得極光如墨漆光亮、至於中国有此樹否者、本館尚未細査、或南幾/ヱラスチーキゴム、輭象皮、
