○イタヤ糖椒ノ椒ハ恐クハ槭ノ誤ニテハ無キ哉、此木北海ニ極テ多シ、材堅シテ馬鞭ノ用ニ供ス可シ、安政年中ユウベツ■定■鈴木庄助ト云者米国ニテ此木ヨリ糖ヲ得ル事ヲ聞キ樹身ニ鑿シテ汁ヲ滴ラシ嘗メ試ミシ事アリシカ存外糖分多キ様ニ覚ヘタリ、惜ム可シ、主法ヲ得サレハ終ニ製造スルニ至ラスシテ止メタリキ【報知新聞　十二年十二月二十九日】
