Translation

清国蟠桃試験書、右蟠桃之義、明治七年清国ヨリ御取寄之上旧勸業寮試験場ヘ御栽付ニ相成引続キ当御〓ニテ御栽培ノ未年々開花致シ候得共、未タ結果成熟ニ至ラズ半途ニシテ萎■致シ遂ニ成熟ニ至ラズ候ニ付、昨明治十五年十月結果試験之為メ繁枝ヲ過半伐取リ且根ノ周囲三尺四方ヲ円形ニ掘リ小石ヲ詰込ミ置キ猶本草六月ニ至リテ自ラ樹幹ニ竪ニ数條小刀ヲ以テ皮膚ヲ斫割キ且偃曲法ヲ施シ候處八月上旬ニ至テ該樹五本ニテ凡百個許結果成熟仕候事、明治十六年八月六日、主任山本正夫／右説蟠桃図ノ後ニ附載スベシ、伊藤啓介、又案武田氏ノ支那紀行ニ蟠桃ハ形扁平ニシテクヒレアリ、味水蜜桃ニ亜テ隹シト／此蟠桃ハ別紙便之返りにて貰ニ付御別配仕候、頓首、八月七日、田中芳男
